Club or Academy

Finding a club or academy: one of the best ways to start playing badminton is to find a club or academy in your local area. This will give you access to training, coaching, and competitions.


All academies affiliated to BSA need to sign a cooperation agreement in order to ensure that our high standards are being met.

Equipment

To play badminton, you will need a racket, shuttlecock, and appropriate clothing and shoes. It's important to have the right equipment to ensure that you can play to the best of your ability.

Types of competitions: there are a variety of competitions available for junior players, including local, regional, and national events.

WITNESS THE FITNESS

Dedication as expressed in maintaining minimum fitness levels as prescribed by the National Head Coach is mandatory.


There are prescribed min standards at each age group.


A player has to be in a National squad in order to qualify for selection to a national team.

Training and practice

Develop and set goals

Developing your skills: to improve as a player, it's important to practice regularly. This includes working on your technique, footwork, and stamina.

Excercise, Diet, Rest

To play badminton at a high level, it's important to maintain good physical fitness. This includes regular exercise, a healthy diet, and adequate rest.

to prevent injuries, it's important to warm up and stretch properly before playing, and to use the correct technique when playing shots.


Code of Conduct

Play respectful, win with honour

The South African Badminton Association (BSA) has rules for players, coaches, officials, volunteers, parents, and spectators to follow. This is to make sure everyone is respectful and follows the rules of badminton. People who don't follow the rules may face consequences like a warning, suspension, or being expelled from badminton activities. If someone does something really wrong, they may even face legal action. It's important for everyone to know these rules and to report any violations they see.
